The method
The CAQA Mastery Cycle
Six stages, in this order. A topic only turns green when the last two are passed.
Diagnose
We find the gap underneath the gap, not the topic your learner named.
Explain
Explicit teaching in small steps, with understanding checked at every step.
Model
A fully worked example, then faded, then handed over completely.
Practise
Spaced and mixed, never the same question type twice in a block.
Prove
Teach it back unaided, then pass a check on new questions seven or more days later.
Transfer
Apply it in an unfamiliar context, with no help and no prompts.
Why stage 5 matters
Getting it right during the lesson measures short-term memory. Getting it right on new questions a week later measures learning.
Almost every tutoring service measures the first and calls it the second. We record both, and only the second turns a topic green. Try it on the example record: the row cannot go green until the delayed check is passed.
