NAPLAN Readiness

Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. Familiarity with the format, and the skills underneath the format.

Years 3 to 9 $390 for 6 sessions Online

What it covers

  • Reading: locating, inferring and evaluating under time pressure
  • Writing: narrative and persuasive, planned and structured
  • Language conventions: spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • Numeracy: the calculator and non-calculator sections
  • Test-day strategy: pacing, skipping and checking
  • Managing test anxiety without pretending it does not exist

Who it is for

Learners in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, and their parents, who want the format to hold no surprises.

We do not drill past papers. Drilling raises familiarity and leaves the underlying gap in place. We teach what the test measures, then use the format so it is not a shock.

How it runs

Six 90-minute sessions, online, in a small group, timed to the term before the test window.

Descriptors we map

Every topic is tied to a named curriculum descriptor, and a descriptor only turns green once your learner teaches it back unaided and passes a check on new questions at least seven days later. A sample of what we map for this programme:

Sample curriculum descriptors

Questions

Is NAPLAN worth preparing for?

The test itself is a snapshot, and we would not want a family stressed about it. What is worth doing is closing the gaps it reveals, which is useful whatever the result.

Will this improve my child's band?

We do not promise a band. What we promise is that the skills underneath are taught and proven, and that the format is familiar.

When should we start?

The term before. Six weeks is enough for format familiarity. Closing a real skills gap takes longer.
