Mathematics tutoring

Number sense, fractions, algebra readiness and proportional reasoning, taught until your learner can do it alone a week later.

Years 3 to 12 From $69 per session Online

What it covers

  • Place value, number sense and the four operations
  • Fractions, decimals and percentages as one connected idea
  • Proportional reasoning, ratio and rate
  • Algebra readiness: inverse operations, then expressions, then equations
  • Measurement, geometry and data
  • Problem solving, including reading the question properly

Who it is for

Learners from Year 3 to Year 12 who are behind, stuck, or coasting. Most families come to us about a current topic. Almost always the real problem sits one to three years further back, and that is what we teach first.

We will tell you if the gap is wide. A Year 9 learner with a Year 6 numeracy gap needs two to three terms, not six weeks. You will hear that at the diagnostic, not at week eight.

How it runs

Weekly, online, with the same tutor and the same small group. Every session opens with scored retrieval of earlier material, no notes. New teaching is explicit and checked at every step.

Descriptors we map

Every topic is tied to a named curriculum descriptor, and a descriptor only turns green once your learner teaches it back unaided and passes a check on new questions at least seven days later. A sample of what we map for this programme:

Sample curriculum descriptors
CodeDescriptor
AC9M5N04Compare and order fractions with related denominators
AC9M6N05Solve problems involving finding a fraction or percentage of a quantity
AC9M7A02Apply inverse operations to solve one-step problems
AC9M7N06Order and operate with positive and negative integers
AC9M8A01Expand and factorise algebraic expressions
AC9M8N02Use ratio and rate to solve proportional problems

Illustrative sample. The full map is built from your learner's diagnostic. See how the Ledger works.

Price

From $69 per session, GST inclusive. No lock-in contract, two weeks' notice, pause any time. Second subject 20% off and siblings 15% off on group memberships.

Questions

My child says they understand it in the lesson but fails the test. Why?

Because understanding during a lesson is partly the tutor prompting, and partly short-term memory. That is exactly why we do not mark anything complete until a check on new questions a week later.

Do you help with the maths homework?

We look at it as evidence of where the gap is, then teach that gap on our own problems. We do not complete it.

How quickly will we see a change?

Confidence usually moves within three or four weeks. School results move when the gaps underneath close, which depends entirely on how wide they are.
