Doctoral progress coaching
Argument architecture, writing routine, supervisor strategy and confirmation or viva rehearsal.
What it covers
- Argument architecture: the logic of a claim you have already made
- Structural and genre conventions, taught from published exemplars
- Writing routine and productivity systems that survive a bad month
- Reading and appraisal at doctoral volume
- Confirmation and viva rehearsal: questions and technique
- Managing the supervisor relationship and candidature milestones
Who it is for
Doctoral candidates who are stalled, isolated, or writing but not progressing. Coached by PhD-qualified Academic Coaches.
How it runs
One to one, online, 60 minutes. Most candidates take the 12-session programme across a semester rather than booking ad hoc.
Descriptors we map
Every topic is tied to a named curriculum descriptor, and a descriptor only turns green once your learner teaches it back unaided and passes a check on new questions at least seven days later. A sample of what we map for this programme:
| Code | Descriptor |
|---|---|
Argument | Interrogating a claim you have already made |
Structure | Conventions taught from published exemplars |
Routine | Writing systems and realistic scheduling |
Appraisal | Reading at volume without losing the thread |
Defence | Confirmation and viva question rehearsal |
Candidature | Milestones and the supervisor relationship |
Illustrative sample. The full map is built from your learner's diagnostic. See how the Ledger works.
Price
$195 per hour, or $2,100 for 12 sessions, GST inclusive. No lock-in contract, two weeks' notice, pause any time. Second subject 20% off and siblings 15% off on group memberships.
Questions
Can you read my chapter and tell me if it is any good?
We can discuss the logic of an argument you have already made. We will not edit, restructure or assess it as a supervisor would, and we will not become a substitute for supervision.
I need my thesis edited before submission.
That is a different service under the IPEd Guidelines for Editing Research Theses, limited to language and completeness, requiring your supervisor's written permission and an acknowledgement. We refer you to an IPEd Accredited Editor rather than blur the line.
Is this allowed by my university?
Our boundaries are set to be defensible anywhere. Where your institution has stricter rules, their rules apply, and we will ask you what they are.
